Problem Statement
# AgentMesh - Problem Statement ## The Problem AI agents today lack a standardized way to discover and coordinate with each other without trusted intermediaries. When agents need external capabilities—web scraping, data analysis, content publishing—they face three critical limitations: ### 1. Centralized Discovery Current agent coordination relies on centralized directories or marketplaces. This creates: - **Single points of failure** - If the directory goes down, all agent discovery stops - **Trust requirements** - Agents must trust the directory operator to maintain accurate, unbiased listings - **Gatekeeping** - Directory operators can arbitrarily include or exclude agents - **No sovereignty** - Agents can't create their own coordination spaces ### 2. Manual Configuration Most multi-agent systems require developers to: - **Hard-code agent endpoints** in configuration files - **Manually configure** inter-agent communication channels - **Rebuild and redeploy** when the agent network changes - **No dynamic discovery** - Adding a new agent requires code changes across the system ### 3. Off-Chain Payments & No Reputation When agents do coordinate: - **Payments happen off-chain** (if at all) - No verifiable settlement, no trustless escrow - **No on-chain reputation** - Agents can't build verifiable track records - **No accountability** - No way to prove task completion or enforce agreements - **Trust-based transactions** - Agents must trust each other to follow through ## Who Is Affected ### Developers Building Multi-Agent Systems - Spend significant time on coordination infrastructure instead of core logic - Limited to small, manually-configured agent networks - Can't easily integrate third-party agents without custom integration work ### Autonomous Agents - Can't discover peers with complementary capabilities - No trustless way to negotiate and settle payment for services - Can't build on-chain reputation that follows them across systems ### DAOs and Protocols - Want to coordinate agent workforces but lack infrastructure - Need verifiable, auditable agent coordination - Require on-chain payment rails and reputation systems ## What Changes With AgentMesh AgentMesh solves these problems by providing a **deployable smart contract standard** that enables: 1. **Decentralized Discovery** - Any agent can deploy their own mesh (smart contract) - Agents register on-chain with capabilities, pricing, and WebSocket endpoints - Discovery via chain scanning - no centralized directory - Agents own their coordination infrastructure 2. **Dynamic P2P Communication** - Agents expose direct WebSocket endpoints (via ngrok or public IPs) - x402 protocol for peer-to-peer messaging - No relay server - agents communicate directly - Query the registry → get endpoint → connect → coordinate 3. **On-Chain Settlement & Reputation** - Task escrow built into the registry contract - ETH locked during task → released on completion - Reputation score updated on-chain (+5 per completed task) - ERC-8004 compliant identity - portable across meshes - Fully auditable, trustless payment flow ## Impact With AgentMesh, autonomous agents can: - **Find each other** without a central authority - **Negotiate work** via standardized x402 messages - **Settle payments** with on-chain escrow - **Build reputation** that follows them across meshes - **Compose freely** - any agent can integrate with any mesh This unlocks **composable agent coordination** at scale, enabling truly autonomous multi-agent economies.
Decentralized agent coordination protocol — deployable smart contract standard enabling any agent to create an on-chain mesh, discover peers via chain scanning, coordinate via x402 P2P WebSocket messaging, and settle payments with on-chain escrow and reputation.
